Abstract

This research is highly significant, particularly in organizing teaching and learning activities that emphasize students’ active participation in practice, specifically the analysis of Lao literary texts according to the methods and procedures of literary analysis. The objectives of this study are to investigate the factors affecting students’ learning in analyzing literary texts in the Lao literature subject among Grade 8 secondary school students, and to examine the level of students’ interest, understanding, and satisfaction with the teaching and learning of literary text analysis in Lao literature. The sample group consisted of 21 Grade 8 demonstration secondary school students. Data were collected through the implementation of actual teaching and learning activities. The research results found that before the instruction, all students in the class were at levels ranging from very weak to good. The most significant problem faced by students was that Lao literary texts are still largely transmitted through oral storytelling traditions. They remain in poetic forms and have not yet been systematically compiled or newly published. The Lao literary texts used for teaching are still in their traditional forms and have not been adapted into other media such as films, videos, theatrical performances, or stage presentations. In teaching literary text analysis, teachers must review the theoretical approaches and procedures for analyzing literary texts before teaching. Teachers should also encourage students to read and study Lao literary texts in advance, which accounted for 95.23%. The classroom environment should also be free from noise disturbances, accounting for 76.19%, along with other related issues. The post-learning evaluation results indicated that only 2 students remained at the weak level, accounting for 9.52%, while 19 students were at the moderate to very good levels, accounting for 90.47%.
